Soundport
The building is designed by the renowned British architects Foster and Partners and the detailing inside the house is exquisite with a very Nordic touch on both materials and design solutions.
The building will be a new landmark in the Copenhagen area and will be clearly visible from the air as a recognizable feature of the coastline of Denmark when arriving by air at Copenhagen airport as well as by car over the bridge from Malmoe, Sweden.
The design idea
The idea of the building contains three elements.
- The base of the building, The plinth
- The internal transparency between departments
- The views towards the outside water areas as well as the view towards Sweden.
The location
Soundport is prominently located at an artificial triangular peninsula of approximately 11.500 m2, with a view towards water on all three sides of the building.
Soundport is centrally located close to the Copenhagen airport and the Oeresunds bridge towards Sweden. The address is Amager Strandvej 405 in Kastrup. The closest neighbour is the national aquarium ‘The Blue Planet’ and the old fishermen’s harbour.
The site is within a 15-minute walk from Copenhagen international airport and within a 5-minute walk from the Metro Station “Kastrup – Den Blå Planet”.
The entire area around Soundport is progressing rapidly, and three major buildings will be taken into use in 2021. The building is situated close to the recreational area of Amager towards north, within a 10-minute metro trip to the City center of Copenhagen.
Soundport is situated close to the Copenhagen Airport and the Oeresunds bridge to Sweden.
Soundport is directly on the Coastline and close to the recreational Kastrup Strandpark.
The architecture and the content of the building
The triangular building is based on a plinth (the basis), which amongst other elements contains car parking. On the outside the plinth is surrounded by a public promenade close to the sea.
The building on top of the plinth is covered with glass facades, it has outside balconies and is finalized with a cantilevered impressive steel roof covered with a beautiful glass dome.
Level 0 (ground floor) is the entrance area where guests arrive. The level contains reception, kitchen, restaurant, conference facilities as well as the common square, the Atrium.
The three laboratories are situated on level 1, 2 and 3 overlooking the entrance ramp. The remaining space are used for offices.
The building is around 24.000 m2 BBR net, divided into approximately 12.000 m2 offices and around 4.500 m2 laboratories. The building is designed for around 750 employees.
The Atrium, the impressive glass dome, is the heart of the building and will create a very special internal atmosphere and will be the natural meeting point.
